Rambo 4

RamboA while back I posted that Rambo 4 will be directed by Rambo himself, i.e. Sylvester Stallone. I checked IMDb today and I see the project info has been updated – Rambo 4 will be out in 2008.

Update: Make that early 2008. The official title has been changed to Rambo 4: Pearl of the Cobra.

There are numerous discussions about Stallone being too old for this, Afghanistan being anything but an adventure zone. I liked this comment in particular:

If he can do Rocky he can do Rambo. A 60 year old Ex-Vet is more believable than a 60 year old boxer.

Well, I doubt a lot of people have their expectations too high. I liked the original Rambo but the sequels were not as impressive.

He can do three more sequels to rambo if he wants. He is Sly, a talented writer, actor and Director. The late rocky movie shows what he is capable of doing, his looks is beyond perfection at this age. I can’t wait to see the official production pictures. Sly go a head and do what you got to do……we love you…………………….

After much cynicism regarding a 4th Rambo outing, after seeing the trailer, and reading the plot points,I must say it does look good. Political, dealing with the Burma situation, alike the Afghan plot of Rambo III,the Rambo movies have always been much more & had more depth than the countless and brainless imitators.

Rock VI was, against all the odds,a bloody fine movie, actually a worthy sequel, rare in these days. Who would’ve thought a 5th sequel to Rocky would have been so good, but,it was.

If anyone can pull off Rambo IV,Stallone can, and, from what I’ve seen so far,it’s going to be a visceral & powerful action film.

can’t believe it will be 20 years since the last Rambo, Rambo 3. It’s about time!!! I wish it took plaace in the states again though! Rambo running around on the streets was kick ass!

I’ve been a Sly fan for years, love his movies. Got to admit though, I had my doubts about a new Rocky and this new Rambo. But I really enjoyed the last Rocky, and this trailer for the new Rambo looks pretty good. Can’t wait to see it, Sly is an inspiration to all of us old guys.

I have grown up on Stallone movies – He is a legend – one of the last great screen icons. No one can top First Blood as an action movie – its in a league of its own – A lot of movies immitate it (Bourne Identity etc) – I also liked the 2 Rambo sequels because they didnt try to immitate the action of the first movie – instead they built on the character relationships of Rambo and Troutman (They were not as inferior as people make them out to be.) and took the characters on adventures across the world – They had a boys comic book action style to them.

However I think Stallone is taking a risk with Rambo 4 – I mean he still looks good and still looks like he can take an army of soldiers on in battle. But I feel thats only part of the appeal of the legendary Rambo movies. Where is the Troutman character in the new movie? I did not see him in the trailor – I know that Richard Krenna, the actor who played the Troutman character, unfortunately died, but they could have found another actor to play Troutman?

From the trailor, the movie looks extremely violent – but not in an action movie type of way – Its violent in a horrible way – like zombie gore style. I dont see any big major stunts in it to match the current/previous stream of action movies. Remember the motorbike scenes in First Blood and the bits where Rambo falls from a mountain onto a tree – There is nothing indicating any action like that in the movie trailor of Rambo 4 – It also doesnt seem to have the big budget sets of the first three movies either.

Also the title John Rambo – I think the orignal title Rambo 4: Pearl of the Cobra sounded a lot better.

These are just reflections of what I feel after seeing the trailor – I might be pleasantly proven wrong by the filmmaker who gave us two great legends – Because I am a big Stallone fan (Even though a very critical fan.) and I will watch this movie when it is released.

    I agree with Suchet.
I am 30 wich in comparasin with the first movie i am realy young. thank god for vhs!!!! ive also seen Cobra wich is another kick ass movie! getting back to what i was saying. this is more of a gore fest. i like where he says killing is like breathing. but this takes the rambo carector to a new and not so liked person. on the other hand its nuthing new to him even though in the trailor it looks like he wants to live in peace. but when he sees people dieing around him it brings back memaries just like the sec one. no one knows what goes through a vets head after trama like they see. maybe im just rambling out loud. but i think he finaly wigs out in this one. he kills what ever he sees with no soul in his eyes and i think there trying to impress a younger croud like the way they screwd up transformers. blood and guts for a rambo movie isnt what rambo was. re wasnt a crazed vet. it seems like thats what they did to the charector and i dont like it. it has a rambo feel to it but its not rambo. i will see it also. i hope im not disapointed with rambo as a was with transformers. keeping rambo rambo is important. mess with that and u may be messing with fire!!!!
