I’ve been extolling the virtues of HVX200 for the last few months.
This time, however, it’s Sony FX1 turn to shine (review of Sony FX1). How, you ask. Very simple – it’s the first time I see the camera go for under $2,000!
Apple Store has the FX1 for $1,995 – you should definitely hurry up. It can’t be linked directly, so here’s the instructions: go to Apple Store, search for “HDR-FX1″ and voila! You got an HD cam for less than 2,000.
Update: It seems the item is out of stock now (April 7).
I went to the Apple Store, and no luck. I even Googled it and came up with an Apple store link, also no joy. Any ideas?
Same here. As usual, if it sounds too good to be true – it probably isn’t true. I’d order one now if Apple had the FX1 available for only $2,000.
Additionally, with a bit more digging.
Here is Googled chached page from March 26 showing a much higher price:

Um, that’s the new little consumercam for $2K, not the FX1.
No, it existed. Apple was just trying to get rid of its FX1′s, they only had 15 left though – and they got 200 orders placed. so only a few lucky ones (at least should have) got it. This was the big deal for us last Friday on slickdeals.net.
I placed my order and using my government discount, the total was $1916 + tax. But, it was cancelled the next day.
Looks like I’m stuck with my HC1. But I got a good deal on that. I got for $1100 open box at Best Buy almost two weeks ago. I’m thinking that will be sufficient for my stand up and the simple short film I want to do over the summer.

I’m sorry to disappoint but when I got there, the cam was staring at me sitting comfortably at $2,000. Plenty of other indie movie blogs linked to that so probably that’s what caused the sudden disappearance.
