Last night was the Hollywood premiere of Conan.
There’s a ton of photos at IMDB.
Apart from Jason Momoa, we get Ron Pearlman, Stephen Lang, and Rose McGovan (rumored to be groomed for Red Sonya at one point).
The world premiere is set for August 19! I cant wait to see the end of this swing in 3D:

Dino De Laurentiis, one of greatest film producers of all time, has died on Wednesday at 91. According to this, he has produced over 500 films, including Fellini’s “La Strada” and “Nights of Cabiria” – he has received Oscars for both.
He produced cult classics such as “Serpico” (1973), “Three Days of the Condor” (1975), “King Kong” (1976), “Blue Velvet” (1986) and “Hannibal” (2001).
Yet, his most memorable appearance for me was on the B-side of my Conan the Barbarian – Collector’s Edition DVD. I found the whole production back story fascinating, especially the hiring of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
To paraphrase Mao, Dino has let a thousand flowers blosssom. Rest in peace.
P.S. Speaking of Conan, you must check out Conan’s soundtrack, Dino has hit the jackpot hiring Basil Poledouris.
Jason Momoa is Conan for the 2011 movie version. The production is currently under way, shooting on location in Bulgaria.

The biggest question is WHAT will the new movie be about. Here’s the answer according to an insider:
A remake implies a new version of an original script. This movie has no connection to any previous Conan movies, it is a franchise restart, like “Batman Begins”. It is a brand new adaptation of the original Conan stories by Robert E. Howard.
So it’s not a remake or a sequel, it’s a RESTART
The new Conan has finally found a lead. You might find it hard to believe but the new lead shares a LOT of similarities with Arnold.
Roland Kickinger
- is born in Austria (check)
- has been a pro bodybuilder (check)
- probably sports a thick Austrian accent (check)
I guess the list could go on and on. I could imagine someone from Nu Image is having a DUH moment right now. They’ve looked everywhere but the one place where Arnolds are born and bred. They gotta be careful though, so that photos of him in skinny jeans don’t surface anytime soon.
I was browsing Google Video and I came across my favorite scene from Conan the Barbarian.
The music from Basil Poledouris is simply amazing. Barely a word is spoken… what an amazing soundtrack!
Being a huge RPG fan, I love the war paint on Conan’s face (as well as his “party members”). There should be a camouflage skill that checks your war paint and awards you with a bonus on your first attack. A bit like backstab, only not in the back!
Looking at the lighting, I think it’s extremely appropriate for the upcoming Diablo 3 trailer. Hopefully, Diablo 3′s release date will be announced soon.

Conan the Barbarian has one of the most amazing soundtracks. I was disappointed NOT to see it on this list of 100 Best Movie Soundtracks.
When I looked into it deeper, I found Conan on a a list of The 101 Great Film Score Milestones. This is an excerpt from the description, you can see the whole list here.
It was compiled by John Caps, in the November-December 2003 issue of Film Comment magazine in an article titled “Soundtracks 101 – Essential Movie Music: A Listener’s Guide.” The list was created to mark the 70th anniversary of the film score in 2003. The article also provided a brief history of film music in the introduction, and further details on each of the choices.
Predictably, one-fourth of the list was taken by the six giants of the Golden Age (Steiner, Waxman, Korngold, Newman, Rozsa, Herrmann). Yet the author also recognized some of the great, but seemingly forgotten, figures of the recent past: Laurence Rosenthal, Richard Rodney Bennett, Dave Grusin, David Shire, and Basil Poledouris.
OK, I feel better now.
Barely a week has passed since I posted about another Conan installment. Due to emancipation (no doubt), it seems that actually Red Sonja has a better chance to get a sequel.
Here’s the official bit of news:
One of the bestselling indie comic books available is coming to the silver screen. Red Sonja, a sword-and-sorcery comic book from Dynamite Entertainment, has been green lit with a production budget north of $25 million.
Hmm, I really hope they haven’t contacted Brigitte Nielson for this one. Let me think for a moment, who’s best suited for the role of a hack-and-slash Barbarian … I got it. Charlize Theron. Aeon Flux sucked but what the hell. If she’s not available, it has to be either Scarlett Johansson or Keira Knightly. See, I give the producers a choice.
There’s official statement on next installment(s) of Conan. The original 1982 movie made Arnold Schwarzenegger a star (and grossed over 100M in the process).
A rep for Warner Bros said (for IGN):
All the talk about Arnold Schwarzenegger being in two more Conan films is premature at this point. First, Governor Schwarzenegger has to finish off his term and then he can announce what his plans are.
The only thing I can tell you at this time is that the WB does want more than one Conan film since the property is seen as a franchise which has spawned toys, comic books, video games etc. I can also tell you that if Arnold wants to make two more Conan films, we will gladly make that deal happen.
I’m not sure how much of Arnie’s term is left but I hope in the next election California voters “let” him focus on his movie career. I love the original Conan! Also, cut his budget so he’s forced to do the filming in Bulgaria!
