Wiki day: Lighting

I recently started to contribute to Wikipedia. I noticed I use it a lot (reading stuff), so I decided it’s only fair if I start contributing as well. Apart from adding a few lines for the English Patient, I created several new stubs on lighting:

  • Classic 4-point lighting setup
  • key light
  • fill light
  • background light
  • back/kicker light

If you’d like to expand these, feel free. I plan to add quite a bit of info on various aspects of the video production.

I think you should a bit of info on lighting the set with practicals. That will be pretty helpful for poor folk like me.

After all Bob Rod lighted most of the interiors with practicals on the set of “El Mariachi” and they look acceptable. Do you know what Kodak film stock he used for the interiors?

    Hi Paul,

That’s a tough question. I’ve never shot on film, just digital video. I checked a few sites and here’s what I found:

Stock: Kodak 16mm 7292 and 7248 16mm film. Maybe you could check Kodak’s site for up-to-date info on which film stocks work best with practials. I’d assume they need to be balanced around 2800K, otherwise you’ll get a slight orange tint (regular Tungsten is 3200K).
